What To Look For In A Travel Insurance Plan

Be Travel-Ready: 5 Tips for Safer Trips During the Covid Recovery

Travel insurance is one of the most important things you need when you travel — yet it’s often overlooked. Whether you’re going on a business trip or a leisurely vacation, travel insurance can protect you from many of the risks that come with travel.

Travel insurance is a form of general emergency coverage. It is the single most essential thing to have when traveling. Travel insurance has assisted many over the years that would have lost thousands if not for travel insurance.

There are many different types of travel insurance plans available, and it can be difficult to know which one is right for you. Today, we will discuss some things to look for when choosing a travel insurance.

First, make sure your travel insurance offers an adequate coverage limit on your medical expenses, including when you’re contracted Covid-19 during your trip. A good policy will provide at least up to $100,000 in coverage care, though more expensive policies will cover you for higher amounts.

Adequate coverage limits are essential since if you become ill, hurt, or require significant attention and treatment, you are able to get your  hospital expenses  covered. Nothing is more aggravating than  purchasing a policy with a  low limit only to break a bone and reach that barrier before they have finished treating you.

You should double-check that your travel insurance covers emergency evacuation  which is not part of your medical coverage. If you break a leg while hiking in the woods, your policy should reimburse you for transportation arrangements  to the nearest  identified hospital.

Also, be sure you know whether your emergency evacuation  coverage will merely get you to the nearest acceptable facility or if it will also cover you for transportation back home.

For instance, if you injure your leg abroad, most insurance policies will pay for your hospital bills. However, they may not cover you for your transportation to get home especially if it is not a life-threatening injury requiring advanced care.

In a nutshell, double-check to see whether your policy will cover the cost of your return flight home if you need it

Third,  good travel insurance policies always include the following clauses:

·        Trip cancellation including when you are contracted Covid-19 before your trip

·        Trip interruption - Your travel plans are interrupted while you are on your trip, including when you’re contracted Covid-19.

·        Travel delay - Your travel plans are delayed while you are on your trip, including when you’re contracted Covid-19.

·        Baggage coverage - Your baggage is lost, damaged, or stolen while on your trip.

·        Baggage delay coverage - Your baggage is delayed by an airline, cruise line, or other travel carrier while on your trip.

·        And more: such as car rental damage, (Your rental car is damaged or stolen while on your trip) etc.

Knowing what your plan covers and what it doesn't is just as crucial. In general, the majority of plans do not cover the following items:

  • Accidents that occur while participating in extreme activities like hang gliding, paragliding, or bungee jumping
  • Drug related or alcohol incidents
  • Absolute carelessness in handling your possessions and baggage

It is recommended that you purchase your travel insurance early, up to the day before you depart on vacation.

It is important that your travel insurance becomes active as soon as you have bought it, so that the coverage will be in placed even before departure.

It is recommended that you purchase travel insurance as soon as possible. Every day that passes increases the probability of something happening and leaving you unable to obtain travel insurance once anything goes wrong.
