10 Things to Do in Bali and Indonesia in Covid-19 era

Be Travel-Ready: 5 Tips for Safer Trips During the Covid Recovery

With its dreamy coastlines, dramatic rice terraces and smouldering calderas, Indonesia - and its super-popular resort island of Bali - were off-limits to travellers during the peak of the pandemic.

Now, however, both Bali and Indonesia have joined the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) scheme, meaning vaccinated Singapore residents can soon enjoy these destinations once again.

If you're planning a tourist stay in Indonesia for 30 days or less, with a Singaporean passport you don’t need to arrange a visa (since you're visa exempt). However, visa-free visits cannot be extended beyond 30 days. If you plan to stay longer, you should apply for the appropriate visa before you travel.

Note: visa requirements can change at short notice so check with the Embassy of Indonesia in Singapore for the latest updates.

To be able to travel under the VTL scheme, travellers must be vaccinated with two doses of a WHO-approved vaccine.

Here are 10 things to do in Bali and Indonesia in the era of Covid-19.

You might have thought Covid-19 decimated the legendary Balinese nightlife. Indeed, with only 45 international visitors in 2021, you'd imagine the cocktail bars and night clubs of Seminyak and Canggu were deserted. But thanks to a huge influx of domestic tourism, these venues have thrived - so you can expect a buzzing nightlife when you return to this dreamy island.
For mesmerising Instagram shots, look no further than Kelingking Beach - surely one of the most beautiful locations in Bali. The powdery-white sandy cove is framed by towering cliffs and lapped by gas-blue waters. Heaven! There are even ‘Instragram tours’ available - so you bag all the best sights for your IG account!
Alluring Ubud is a fabulous fusion of traditional Balinese culture, inventive cuisine, yoga, meditation and unrivalled trendness! If you've never visited before, you might book a tour in an air-conditioned car to see the main sights: Tegalalang Rice Terrace, Tegenungan Waterfall, and the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. For many, a few days in Ubud turns into a few weeks - since reasons to leave are so elusive!
Travelling with kids? Waterbom Bali is sure to delight, with 3.8 hectares of beautifully-landscaped tropical gardens and numerous world-class water-slides. A day of guaranteed fun!
You'll have to get up early to enjoy the sunrise from the 1717m summit of Mount Batur - but it'll be worth it. Join dozens of other visitors who make the pre-dawn ascent to see the sun illuminate Mt Agung (the island's highest peak) and distant Lombok (see below).
If you're visiting Bali, it's worth making the hop across to Lombok and the stunning Gili Islands. Alongside azure-blue waters and castor-sugar beaches, here you can enjoy world-class diving and snorkelling: you're sure to glimpse many turtles gently grazing underwater.
Built in the 8th century, Borobudur is one of the most historically significant and famous landmarks in Indonesia. This UNESCO-listed site is also one of the greatest Buddhist sites in the world. Catch it at its most breathtaking as the sun rises.
Tanjung Puting National Park in Kalimantan, Borneo, is home to the largest population of orangutans on the planet - as well as many other species of primates, reptiles and birds. You can also enjoy orangutans in Sumatra - at the Bohorok Orangutan Centre in Bukit Lawang tourism village.
If primates aren't your thing, then how about seeing a real-life dragon or two? The komodo dragons found in Komodo National Park are a sight to behold. There are also many wonderful beaches to enjoy, including the famous dragon-packed Pink Beach. You'll need to arrive by boat and pay an entrance fee and book guide services.
Located on the Ring of Fire, Indonesia is home to some of the world's most active volcanoes. Among these, the sublime Bromo-Tengger Massif region, in East Java, offers the very finest volcanic views: the mighty Mount Bromo gently puffs away - a reminder that it erupts once every 4-5 years. Book a pre-dawn excursion for a spectacular sunrise.
