The land of the rising sun has some incredible sights and experiences to explore and witness.
Here are our top 9 things that you must not miss in Japan.
The Itsukushima Shrine on the island of Itsukushima is well known throughout the world for its ‘floating’ gate. The gate is located in an area that appears to be floating at high tide. At low tide, you can actually walk up close to it, but if you want the perfect photo, we recommend the floating look.
Take a ride on a super high-speed train on the Shinkansen. Hurtle through the Japanese countryside at an eyewatering 320km/h!
Visit the Tokyo fish and produce market in the morning to get your hands and mouths on the freshest sushi you will be able to get in Japan. Possibly the perfect breakfast? We think so.
One for the adventurers! Take a hike up to Japans tallest peak, the dormant volcano of Mount Fuji. The views you will experience are second to none.
Sumo wrestling originates in Japan, so this is certainly the best place to enjoy it! Japan is also the only country where it is professionally practised, so be sure to visit a major sumo tournament on your visit.
Experience a warm, outdoor bath, known in Japan as an Onsen, whilst the snow is falling. Due to Japan being a volcanically active country, there are thousands of these scattered throughout the country and all of its major islands.
Are you a fan of Japan’s rice-based alcoholic beverage? If so, take a trip to the sake breweries in Obuse or Takayama! Here you will learn how it is made and all the different types you can get!
Take a trip up the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building for free to view the Tokyo skyline from 202 meters! If it is a clear day, you can see all of this plus Mount Fuji, the Meiji Shrine and the Tokyo Tower! You can visit day or night. Or both!
If you are planning on visiting Japan, you need to make sure you have the correct visa for the reason and length of your visit. To find out more about Japan’s visas, visit our blog here.
