What To Do If You Have Lost Your Singapore Passport Abroad

Have you ever been worried about losing your passport abroad?

What happens? How do you get home to Singapore?

Please do not worry. Whilst every care should be taken to make sure that you do not lose your passport, you will be able to get home.

In this article, we explain what to do if you find yourself in this unfortunate scenario.

Report your lost Singapore passport to the local police

The first thing you must do when you realise that your passport has been lost or stolen when you are abroad or on vacation is to file a report with the local police station to the county where the passport was lost. Request a copy of the report, or at the very least you must request an acknowledgement slip or receipt.

Contact the Singapore High Commission

You must call or email the Singapore High Commission as soon as possible after reporting your passport as lost. Their website is https://www1.mfa.gov.sg/ email address is passport@mfa.sg

On contacting them, you must schedule an appointment to see the consular officer.

Upon your appointment, you must take the following with you:

  • Police report (or acknowledgement slip or receipt)
  • Proof of Singapore citizenship (NRIC, birth certificate, citizenship certificate, marriage certificate)
  • 2 Passport photos (coloured)
  • A copy of your flight itinerary/electronic ticket to Singapore (if you have it)

Once your identification has been verified…

At this point, the high commission will supply you with a Document of Identity to enable you to travel back to Singapore. As soon as you return to Singapore, you must surrender this document and apply for a replacement passport at the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.

Accidents happen, and things can be lost or stolen. When taking out your travel insurance policy, have a read of them to see how they will help you in this situation.

With a travel insurance policy from Allianz Global Assistance Singapore, we will reimburse you the cost of replacing your passport, including covering essential and reasonable communication, travel and accommodation costs to obtain replacements should your loss arise from robbery, burglary or theft whilst you are overseas on your journey.
